Winking Santa Owl 2011

Do you recall the Stampin' Up! Winking Santa Owl that I designed with the Owl Builder Punch in the fall of 2010 (click here to see it)?  That card has been the most viewed card of any others that I have designed.  Thus, I decided to make a Winking Santa Owl for 2011.  Here it is:

This year I decided not to use the typical red and white colors.  Instead, I used primarily Pacific Point and Wild Wasabi.

The Wild Wasabi background features the Stampin' Up! Northern Flurry Embossing Folder and the Whisper White cardstock features the new Stampin' Up! Snow Burst Embossing Folder.

I designed the tree branches upon which the Santa Owl rests, and I embellished them with the new Stampin' Up! Dazzling Details.  The white part of Santa's hat anchors the new Stampin' Up! Mica Flakes.  The Santa Owl is winking, as he was last year, because although the sentiment says, "He's gonna find out whooooose naughty or nice!", Santa will always fill up our hanging, bright stockings and place our desired gifts under the tall,  blinking Christmas tree!  Actually, the sentiment was made using My Digital Studio (MDS).  I love MDS!  Do you own it?  If not, purchase it here.

Lastly, the ribbon that flows behind the sentiment is a retired Pacific Point Striped Poly Ribbon.  (The bumps from the embossed snowflakes gives the ribbon a raised look in spots.)   Other Stampin' Up! products used are the Scallop Edge Border Punch and Olive Fine Supernova and Black Fine Galaxy Stampin' Glitter.

Stampin' Up! Greeting Card - Uncle Sam Owl

Today, June 14, is Flag Day and my Dad's birthday. Therefore, I created a Stampin' Up! greeting card with a patriotic theme featuring the wonderful Stampin' Up! Owl Punch. It has been a while since I created a card using the Owl Punch, so I decided to make an Owl that represents Flag Day. Here he is:

You will notice that my flag is backwards, or so it seems.  This is because the flag on the U.S. Army uniforms (and maybe other branches of the military) is always facing backwards to represent the soldiers always marching forward.

The Owl is dressed in a navy suit and he is sporting Uncle Sam's Hat (or my version). He has one "hand" holding the flag - it's a little difficult to see his white "hand", but it's there (lol). He holds his other hand over his heart as he says, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." Can you hear him? Thank God for the flag of the USA!

The flag has significant meaning to my family not only because of family members serving our country in the armed forces, but because of my Dad. My Dad loved the American Flag so much that it actually was the cause of his significant fall that resulted in his passing. The wind had blown his flag around his flag pole, and he was determined to correct that. Therefore, my 81-year-old Dad got his 12-foot ladder out, climbed it, and unwrapped the flag from around the pole. As he finished, he slipped and fell to the ground. He laid in this position for many hours before he was found. This fall accentuated health issues and he passed in four months after the incident. My Dad loved the flag so much that it ultimately lead to his death. I miss him so much {tears}.

Back to the card. I used the Stampin Up Square Lattice Embossing Folder on the second layer of the card, creating an inlaid affect with the stars. The flag pole was made with the Jewelry Tag Punch, and the flag was made with an old die cut.  The Stampin Up Glitter Paper, which is coming back with the new catalog, was used for the first layer on the card.  It was also used for the three stars on the inside of the card.  The stars were made using the Stampin' Up! Stars #2 Die.  I hope you enjoy the card.

Can you tolerate another OWL card?  I knew you would say, "Yes".  Today's share is my Valentine Owl card.  This card's primary feature is the owl stamp of the Stampin' Up! (SU) Sale-a-bration Punch Bunch.  This stamp set is free with the purchase of $50 in SU products or a $300 net sales workshop. 

This card is meant for a best girlfriend.  The sentiment, "Whooose Your Valentine?" and the stamp, "Friend" is meant to be read as, "Whooose your Valentine, Friend?"  The sentiment, "Whooose Your Valentine", was made with My Digital Studio (MDS) and cut with the banner portion of the wonderful Petal Cone Bigz Die.  (Isn't it great that if you don't have a stamp that meets your need, all you need to do is create it with MDS?)

Ms. Christmas Tree Owl and Her Friend, Mr. Snowman Owl

Loving the two-step owl punch as much as I do, I decided that I should develop another piece of art using the punch.  So, here is Ms. Christmas Tree Owl and her friend, Mr. Snowman Owl. 

Aren't they delightful?  Ms. Christmas Tree Owl is Crumb Cake and Garden Green in color.  She is adorned with her best decorations that were created with the Stampin' Up! Crop-A-Dile 1/8" punch outs, which were decorated with  Fine Cosmo Stampin' Glitter.  She proudly perches on the Early Espresso fallen tree (Branch Out - retired stamp set) with her "friend", Mr. Snowman Owl, as she displays her hand-designed Christmas tree dress.  As they enjoy each other and the falling  White Chunky Essentials and  White Gel Pen snow , Mr. Snowman Owl radiates in his Whisper White and Basic Black suit.  He proudly displays his Black Fine Galaxy Glitter hat that was created with My Digital Studio and "A Cute Christmas - Snowman" stamp.  

Their black Designer Jewels eyes sparkle, as does Mr. Snowman Owl's mouth.  His Rich Razzleberry Taffeta Ribbon scarf adorns and warms his neck as they stand side-by-side on the fallen tree.  Although it's cold outside, they feel cosy in their beautiful surroundings - the  Plant Hope,  Always Artichoke, and  Basic Black pine trees in their background, and the Brayer produced Bashful Blue, Marina Mist, and a touch of Perfect Plum sky.  They adore their Whisper White, Marina Mist, and Perfect Plum home, especially the interior, which is decorated with Shelli's Signature Collection, Serene Snowflakes. 

How adorable are they?  I think they are striking!

Winking Owl Santa

Got to love that owl punch!!  (CHECK OUT MY NEW WEBSITE:  STAMPINGWITHGUNEAUXDESIGNS.COM)  It has to be the most popular of Stampin' Up!'s punches.  It is so fun creating with the owl, as I have done here.  My owl is a Santa who is winking, as we all know that whether we are naughty or nice, he always brings us goodies!  I hope you enjoy viewing the card as much as I did making it!

The red background features the Big Shot Northern Flurry textured impressions.  Love that Stampin' Up! product too!  (I hope Stampin' Up! carries this product over in its next catalog.)  And the silver trim tinsel is lovely.  It adds a nice touch to the card. 

The side view of the card makes more visible the use of Stampin' Up!'s Chunky Essentials Glitter.  Love that glitter!  I'll probably need more before December rolls around.

The close up of Mr. Owl Santa provides a better view of him.  He was fun to create.  I made my own Santa hat from Stampin' Up! card stock, and I think it turned out well.  This would be a great Christmas card for my grandson, Drew, and granddaughter, Erika.  However, they will see it here so I'll have to think of something else for them.
